Judging process

Rigorous, independent, inspirational, objective – you would expect nothing less from judges at the World Retail Awards.

The Judges

Every judge is a vastly experienced, respected professional in the international retail community and each is chosen for their impartiality and rigorous approach to the process.

Their independence is guaranteed and if there is a conflict of interest they will stand down for that category.

The Process

A two-stage judging process ensures that nominated work is seen by the key people in the industry.

Firstly, the Expert Judging Panel, consisting of at least five vastly experienced specialists in each category field, will review entries, marking them to an agreed scorecard to create a shortlist of six contestants in each category – finalists at the World Retail Awards 2009.

The Grand Jury, consisting of CEO level retailers from retail sectors around the world, plus representatives from academia, FMCG companies and suppliers, will then choose a winner in each category.

All entries will be checked for accuracy and eligibility prior to submission to the judging process.

Judging Day

The Grand Jury will meet in Barcelona on the 5 May 2009, two days before the Awards ceremony to discuss the shortlist at length. They will then vote on the winner in each category by secret ballot and after extensive discussion.
