Situated on The Strand, in the heart of the City of Westminster, the prestigious Victorian Royal Courts of Justice is one of the last great wonders of Gothic revival architecture in England.
With more than a century of history, over 1000 rooms and a 3½ mile labyrinth of hallways it is one of London’s most iconic landmarks.
The building was designed by G E Street, a solicitor turned architect, and was officially opened by Queen Victoria on 4 December1882.
By day it is home to the Court of Appeal and the High Court of Justice of England and Wales, handling many of the nation's most serious civil, libel and appeals cases. The public are permitted to view all 88 court rooms, though Judges have been known to reprimand those who interrupt proceedings!
Its wonderful heritage, imposing Portland stonework, dramatic architecture, beautiful marble mosaic floors, soaring arches, elaborate carvings and beautiful stained glass windows are guaranteed to leave you awestruck.
The cathedral-esque space provides a spectacular backdrop for the glittering Gala Dinner and Awards ceremony. Truly breathtaking, the Great Hall is a staggeringly 82ft high, with guests dining under the coats of arms of Lord High Chancellors and feeling part of a truly wonderful history.
A magnificent venue for the spectacular 2012 Awards ceremony.
