Recognising the lifetime achievements of those who have changed the way we perceive and interact with retail, the World Retail Hall of Fame is an integral part of the programme.
World Retail Congress is delighted to announce that the first retailer to be inducted into the World Retail Hall of Fame is:
Kip Tindell, Co-Founder, Chairman and CEO, The Container Store
Kip Tindell has been at the helm of The Container Store since it first opened its doors in Dallas in 1978 – creating the first ever store devoted solely to storage and organization products. The business he helped found now has stores across the US together with a strong online presence. At the heart of the company he has built is a powerful values-based Foundation Principles which delivers an employee-first culture, superior customer service and strict merchandising. Not only has this delivered strong growth but also impressive employee loyalty that has landed the company on FORTUNE magazine’s list of “100 Best Companies to Work For” the last 16 years. Kip also serves on the board of Whole Foods Market and as the Chairman of the Board of the National Retail Federation. He is a leader and passionately involved in Conscious Capitalism, Inc., a community of like-minded business, thought and academic leaders working to elevate humanity through a conscious approach to business.
UNCONTAINABLE: How Passion, Commitment, and Conscious Capitalism Built a Business Where Everyone Thrives, Tindell’s book about The Container Store’s culture, Foundation Principles and devotion to Conscious Capitalism, delves deeper into the retailer’s unique approach to business. Commenting on the award, Mr Tindell said: “I’ve spent a lifelong career in retail and can’t imagine doing anything else. It’s the most exciting and innovative industry out there. So, to be recognized by the World Retail Congress in this light, given the organization’s high calibre impact on the global retail landscape, is beyond thrilling and humbling. To join the previous inductees and my fellow co-inductees this year in the World Retail Hall of Fame is a monumental honour that, together with everyone at The Container Store, I am extremely proud of.”
Kip is speaking in two sessions at World Retail Congress 'The state of play: The retail perspective' on Tuesday 8 September and 'Building company culture for the brave new retail world' on Wednesday 9 September.
