In 2016, the Congress took place outside of Europe and in Dubai for the first time. Building on the success of this edition, the Congress will return to this bustling retail destination from 4-6 April, 2017.
2017 brings the introduction of two retail study tours playing into the main theme for the Congress “reimagining the customer experience”. Physical stores to this day play a central role in the perception and impression of a brand. The ability of a brand to carry their customer experience across the physical and digital domains is significant and only achieved successfully by few. The Retail Study Tour aims to explore the successful examples across one of the two days.
CELEBRATE RETAIL LEGENDS
World Retail Congress strives to recognise great leadership and strategy which culminate in the award ceremony, World Retail Hall of Fame and World Retail Awards.
Retail legends inaugurated into the World Retail Hall of Fame include Solomon Lew, Jo Malone and Tommy Hilfiger. Those recognised in 2017 will be announced shortly.
RECOGNISE FUTURE RETAIL TALENT
Since its inception, World Retail Congress has sought to recognise future talent within the industry, each year welcoming teams of students from colleges and universities across the globe. With a new challenge being set each year, the students are required to design a retail concept that is presented to a panel of expert judges on day two of the Congress. The winner is announced at the World Retail Awards ceremony on the 6th April.

Innovation and differentiation are two cornerstones for the Congress. The Innovation Studio returns for a third year, recognising new technology and strategies within the industry. New for 2017 is the Ideas Factory comprising of 20-minute punchy sessions designed to challenge and inspire delegates in the coming year and beyond.

In 2016, Meg Crofton, Former President of Walt Disney Parks & Resorts, took us on an intimate journey of leadership, highlighting the importance of Personal Brand, Personal Time Management, Personal Balance and Leaving Your Legacy, but ultimately stated, “Before we can be the best leaders for others, we must first be the best leaders of ourselves.”
