As the central voice of the German retail sector, HDE represents the industry’s interests vis-à-vis policymakers at the federal and EU levels, other business sectors, the media, and the public. Backed by state, regional, and trade associations, HDE provides strong, unified representation.

We advocate for our members on all key issues – from economic and tax policy to legislation, consumer protection, sustainability, and quality standards. As the leading retail employers’ association within the Confederation of German Employers’ Associations, HDE also plays a pivotal role in shaping labor and social policy.

In total, 280,000 retail companies in Germany, with three million employees at 400,000 locations, generate annual sales of approximately €630 billion.
